Hi! I’m Erica…
Before the birth of my son, I’d always lived like I was on a bullet train. I worked hard, slept very little, didn’t pay much attention to what I ate, and worked out in feverish bursts separated by periods of total laziness. My favorite catchphrase was, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”
When I became pregnant, I started reading blogs like Wellness Mama and Mommypatomus that shared all of the toxins in the typical home environment and how it was affecting our health. I made little changes to try to reduce the chemicals around us.
Then, my son was born with health issues we never saw coming. My whole world realigned and keeping him healthy became my #1 focus.
Not too long after, I was growing tired of constant achy joints and pain, fatigue, hair loss, steady and stubborn weight gain, and myriad of other symptoms that were not normal. I can remember hearing my knees cracking when I tried to get up off the couch.
Soon after, I joined the 50 million Americans diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.
That was it – I became more determined than ever to use my mad research skills and endless supply of mama bear grit to find natural solutions. I went down the rabbithole of homeopathy and natural living to learn everything I could about healing my body so I could be at my best for my son every day.
But, I quickly learned that I am no Martha Stewart. Trying to buy a ton of hard-to-find ingredients and make my own products was exhausting me and creating even more stress.
I knew I needed to find an easier, more affordable way to make swaps that would help me fight for wellness one product, one choice at a time.
Everything I learned – from the supplements I took, books I read, and products we replaced, held my disease at bay without progression for over 5 years. However, in 2018, I was diagnosed with a second autoimmune disease.
Now, looking at my son and now daughter, I am driven to fight these diseases tooth and nail.
This blog is where I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned and what I do to train my body to efficiently manage these diseases to the best of its ability.
If you’re also suffering from autoimmune related health issues – I understand and I hope something I share will ease your pain. This blog is our place to vent, to share, to find solutions.
If we work together – we will learn faster. My hope is that Autoimmune Rebel helps all of us find the wellness warrior inside all of us – so we can fight for our health one day at a time.
